Business owners rarely think about or have a plan on when/why/how they will sell their business.

There are many “Business Consultants” and “Business Brokers”…

However, they never seem to be working together to determine what’s best for a business owner who may be thinking about selling his/her company. You get random, non-focused consulting without a clear end-game/objective and a broker that just wants to sell your company regardless of the price.

At Atlanta Advisory we take a comprehensive approach with our clients to determine the best course of action when they are considering selling.

There are many things for a business owner to think about and understand before he/she sells… and we will work with the owner to be certain that everything is covered.

It doesn’t matter if an owner wants to sell now or in several years, we work together to make it happen in the most profitable, timely, confidential and professional way. We know how to sell a privately-owned company.

Here’s some of the areas that we will discuss and understand with a business owner before we get started:

Why do you want to sell your business?

This is an important question that all potential buyers want to understand. The reason can have a big influence on the value of your business. A great reason would be because you are ready to retire vs. you’re losing money.

How much is your business currently worth?

This is the most important question that a business owner must understand and it impacts any decision that you make about selling your company. Unfortunately, most owners don’t have a very clear idea of their company’s value. With our experience in working with privately held companies we will be able to give you a very solid answer to this question and what a qualified buyer would likely pay.

How much money will you need from the sale of your business?

This depends on why you are selling… If you are retiring you will need to know how long you can survive with your current savings/any additional income/ and the proceeds of the sale.

It may be a different number if you plan on using the sale proceeds to enter into a new venture.

You need to know if there is a “gap” between what you need and what you can currently get for your business.

If there is a “gap”, we will work with you to close the “gap” and be able to sell.

When do you want to sell?

The timing of your sale can have a big impact on the value of your business. If you have a well-managed company with great financials and everything in order you may be prepared to sell now. However, if there are issues that need to be addressed it may be difficult to sell at all.

Even if we’ve identified that you have a good/saleable company, it may be that we’ve determined that you will need more money from the sale of your business than it is currently worth. We can work with you to implement programs to increase the value of your business.

Is your company ready to sell?

You may be ready, but there are many factors that impact the salability of your company. We know what they are, and we can work with you to identify, design and implement solutions to transform your company and get it ready to sell for the best price. This may take 6 months or a couple of years, but it will be time well spent.

Our goal is to work with you to review and understand all aspects of your company, identify your financial ability to exit from your company and help you determine your best course of action to move forward.
